Using this panel commands are given to the TACAN-System (Tactical Air Navigation) and IFF-Mode (Identify
friend or foe). Further information is not available for now, at it is CLASSIFIED. TACAN-Channels can be
selected as a back-up method. Normally selection is achieved using the
ICP
and the
DED. This panel is located on the
left console.

The TACAN provides permanent data about direction and distance to a selected TACAN-transmitter up to a
distance of 400 miles. The bearing, course, distance and relative position to pre-selected course are shown on
the
HSI according to the selection made with the INT MODE selector button
on the
INSTR Panel. TACAN uses two different bands X is used by ground-
stations, while Y can be used by aircraft (tankers, for example), as well as ground-stations. TACAN is the
analog device to the civilian VOR.
