Chaff/Flare Panel

The Chaff/Flare panel belong together with the Threat Warning Prime, the Threat Warning Aux and the RWR to the EWS (Electronic Warfare System) of the F-16. Depending on the threat, heat seeking missiles or radar guided missiles Flares or Chaff are expelled either automatically or manually. The chaffs are used as countermeasure for heat-seeking missiles, while chaffs are usefull, if the missile is radar guided. An F-16 carries 60 Chaffs and 30 Flares.

The newer version of the Chaff/Flare panel (see pictures) allow even further automatic use of these countermeasures, if an AN/ALQ-131 is placed on board.

This panel is located in the lower part of the left aux. console.
