Chaff/Flare Panel

Das Chaff/Flare Panel gehört mit dem Threat Warning Prime, dem Threat Warning Aux und dem RWR zum EWS (Electronic Warface System) der F-16. Je nach Bedrohung durch hitzesuchende oder radargesteuerte AAMs (Anti Aircraft Missile) werden entweder automatisch durch den Bordcomputer oder manuell durch den Piloten Hitzekörper (Flares) oder Aluminiumstreifen (Chaffs) ausgestossen. Mit den Flares können hitzesuchende AAMs von der heissen Triebwerkssignatur abgelenkt und mit Chaffs das Radar der AAM getäuscht werden. Es können bis zu 60 Chaffs und 30 Flares im Heck der F-16 mitgeführt werden.

Die neue Version des Chaff/Flare Panels (siehe Bilder) ermöglicht wesentlich ausgefeiltere automatische Abwehrmassnahmen, wozu bei Mitführen des AN/ALQ-131 auch das automatische Aktivieren des "Jammers" gehört.
